Later Windows versions have stricter security settings than before. These can cause problems during the Magic Contest installation. This primarily applies to Windows 8 and 8.1, but Windows 7 users may experience this too.
The result is that the supporting DAO technology cannot be installed. DAO is necessary for Magic Contest to maintain the local member database. During the setup phase you may receive error messages to this effect, or you may receive messages about this the first time you start Magic Contest.
The solution is to completely turn off what is referred to as UAC (User Account Control). This is a Windows setting that ensures that no malicious program code is installed on your computer. This is typically done through the Windows Control Panel according to these instructions:
Once UAC has been turned off, you can uninstall and then reinstall Magic Contest. After the installation you are recommended to reset UAC to its original security level.
