A Swedish club owns three projectors. When they play two boards per round, it is possible to use all projectors without having to change displays (except between rounds) in the following way:

Projector 1: Round winner and top-15
Projector 2: First board in the round
Projector 3: Second board in the round

2 (4) … Butler in team event … Two displays, one for the latest round and another for the cumulative butler

Download: Green
Example: Preview TV1

Blocks: IAF, ScoreTable, Ranking
Tags: INCLUDE_FILE, Columns, ShowOneBoardOnly
Note: You cannot use the zip file as is. You must first extract the files into the Magic Contest Documents\Display folder. See more below.
Two TV:s are used during the Swedish Premier League to display the butler. One shows the latest round while the other shows the cumulative butler.

The image is shown on an HD-TV in portrait mode (1200×1900). This is thanks to using a miniature computer called Raspberry Pi that can be set to output such a signal.

The round display uses ShowOneBoardOnly to show two boards per page (sounds contradictory, I know 🙂 , but look inside the downloaded files to see how it is done). Several INCLUDE_FILE:s are used to keep the display codes to a minimum.

The cumulative display shows one column with the top 50 pairs in regular text size. The next 20 are shown in a smaller text size in two columns at the bottom of the page.

As opposed to other download files on this page, all files inside this compressed file, both .mcy and .inc, must be manually extracted into the Magic Contest Documents\Display folder. This is because the compressed file contains one .mcy file for the round (ending with “round”), and another for the butler (ending with “point league”), and they are used separately by the pair window for the round and the point league for the cumulative butler.

The document Display and Butler (point league) contains the necessary documentation on the topic.

4 … Swiss teams … Scenario with one round delay, show only finished matches, keep correct seating on the screen, 1024×768 projector

Version 4.13 (August 2018)

The below displays work this way:

  1. The selected movement is 2 random rounds. After that there is a one round delay, so the round 1 ranking decides the round 3 seating, and so on.
  2. See Match above for necessary settings to only show finished matches.
  3. Skip a few rounds…
  4. Play starts in round 5. As long as no matches have finished the previous display is still shown on the screen.
  5. As soon as one match in round 5 has finished, all matches are shown. IMPs, VPs, Rank and Total VPs are only shown for matches that have finished.
  6. When all matches have finished and Magic Contest asks you to make the draw for the next round, do nothing. Keep round 5 matches and round 6 seating on the projector. It is important that the teams are seated before the new seating is created and shown on the screen.
  7. Now it is time to start the Bridgemate database for round 6.
    1. Activate round 6
    2. Create the Bridgemate database
    3. Activate round 5 (in order to make the draw and change the projectors)
  8. For the scenario to work, i.e. change from match+match on the two projectors to instead show ranking on one and all matches on the other, you now need to manually change Contest menu > Settings > Display > Score recap to the display that contains the ranking.
  9. Once the teams are seated you can make the draw and show the new seating. The easiest way to do this might come across as a little peculiar, but it works:
    1. Move to one of the team IMP results.
    2. Use the Delete button on the keyboard to delete the result.
    3. Move to another result to ensure that the result is really deleted.
    4. Check the Bridgemate checkbox to import results. You will again get the question to make the draw for round 7. Do this, and then watch how the match+match displays change into ranking+match.
    5. The reason this works is that Magic Contest only creates the draw and the displays if any results have changed. By deleting a result you ensure that the end-of-round-trigger is activated.
  10. Now you can manually change Contest menu > Settings > Display > Score recap back to the original display, and wait for a match to finish in round 6 to change from ranking+match to match+match.
